State of the art technology.
34 years of liquor store ideas.

Our feature set is curated from decades of retailer feedback and experience. Newcomers can match the tech. Not the experience behind it.

Run it better

The real payoff is the
time you get back.

Deeper isn't a spec sheet — it's the busywork it kills. We give you an extensive set of features that help you do the things you have to do, faster — here's a handful.

  • Receive a delivery without keying a line
EDI imports the distributor invoice — new items, cost changes, and price suggestions land in a worksheet, ready to review. Q3 2026: snap a photo of any invoice and AI reads it in.
  • Order from what sold, not a guess
Run a sales report and build the order straight from it — simple, accurate replenishment in minutes. No more walking the aisles or allowing the vendor to make decisions for you.
  • Stand up a whole new line in one shot
A new seltzer drops with four flavors? Multi-add enters all four at once — not one screen at a time. Serious time savings.
  • Build a 4/6pk of beer once. Sized and ready.
Sized add puts the single, the 6-pack, and the case on one screen — barcodes, prices, and the repackaging math entered together.
Merchandise hierarchy

A bottle isn't a SKU.
It's a place in a tree.

Most systems treat wine as flat — department, price, done. To them brand is a text field, not a category; region and producer don't exist. Insight's hierarchy is built on the NRF ARTS retail data model — seven real, nested levels. Every bottle knows exactly where it lives.

One bottle, seven levels deep

RegionNapa
AppellationNapa Valley

  • At the counter
A customer wants a good Napa Cab under $80. Your staff answer from a hierarchy view — not a SKU search hoping someone once typed "Napa" into the brand field.
  • In the back office
See exactly how much capital sits in California vs. France, Napa vs. Sonoma, Cabernet vs. Pinot. Buying becomes data-driven, not vibe-driven.
  • Architecture, not a database field
Some systems offer "track by brand, region, or year" — three flat fields. NRF ARTS-class hierarchy isn't something you bolt on in a sprint; it's a schema decision made decades ago.

Ships ready to run out of the box; for a serious wine program we extend the country / region / AVA / producer taxonomy at onboarding. Our first sale, in 1992, was a wine and liquor store — the architecture has the operator's fingerprints all over it.

POS Efficiency

Sized items — one barcode, sold many ways.

Cans are the hard one. One can, one barcode — but you sell it three ways: a single, a six-pack, and a case. Bottles each get their own barcode; cans don't. Our sized items feature is built for exactly that, refined over decades at the package-store counter.

  • Three sizes, entered as three itemsSingle, 6-pack, and case each become their own item — even when the cans share one barcode. Set the size you sell most as the default; the cashier taps a size key for a single or a case. It prices right and adds the bottle deposit.
  • Real movement and depletion on every sizeBecause each size is its own item in the database — the way it should be — you see true sales movement and inventory depletion on singles, 6-packs, and cases separately. Automated ordering rolls all three into true cases to reorder.
  • Mix-and-match or quantity pricedBecause each size is a real item, it can carry a deal — and we do both kinds. Mix-6 is mix-and-match: any combination from a group counts toward the discount. Quantity pricing sets a price break at 6, or at 12. Each size is eligible for either, automatically.

SINGLE

6-PACK
6-Pack Barcode 012000001234 · rings as the default · mix-6 eligible
CASE
4/6 Case Barcode 012000001234 · size key → case · deposit applied

At the register: the operator hits the size key, scans the item, and it rings at the right size — correct price, bottle deposit added, and that size drawn down in inventory. The default size needs no key; just scan.

Inventory Accuracy

Repackaging — our take on case break.

You receive it by the case, then sell it three ways — by the case, the 4-pack, or the single bottle — and the counts stay exact as you break it down. Everyone offers a version of this; here's the one that holds your counts — and gives you sales history on every size.

  • Three items, three barcodes, one productA 6/4pk case of Barefoot Rosé, the 4-pack, and the single bottle are three separate items — each with its own barcode, price, and on-hand count.
  • Parent reduces as children sellSell a 4-pack → the case on-hand drops by 1/6 automatically. Sell a single bottle → the case drops by 1/24. No manual adjustment. Real-time.
  • Exact physical counts anytimeCount 1 case + 3 four-packs + 0 bottles = 1.5 cases. The system converts everything to parent units. Exact variance. Exact shrinkage.
  • Ordering uses true sales velocityPurchase advice combines parent and child sales into total cases. 1 case sold + 6 four-packs sold = 2 cases of true sales. Order the right quantity, every time.
  • The bottle-as-parent trapMake the bottle the parent unit and exact counts break the moment you split a case. We model the case as the parent — so variance stays unit-exact. It's a schema decision, made right.

Grow your store

Keep your regulars.
Grow the basket.

Running the store is half of it. The other half is keeping the people who shop with you — and a liquor store's edge was never reach, it's the relationship. The tools to act on it are built in.

  • Loyalty, live in the register
Points and rewards you control, built in — the register already knows who's at the counter. Altria Personalization+ funded promotions are rolling out now.
  • Know what they want
See what's actually selling — by brand, size, region, category — and stock the movers, clear the dead stock tying up your cash. Carry what your shoppers come for.
  • Your own channel — coming
Wine and spirits are browse purchases. A customer app and a browsable catalog you own — no app store, no broker — so your customers stay yours. ⬚ On the roadmap.

Everything ships
in one box.

One vendor, one support call — the workstation, the pin pad, the scanner, the printer, the drawer. Configured, ready to run, and yours to own.

Payments

Card processing,
built to keep your margin.

Integrated on Fiserv, right in the register — one vendor for the software and the payments, one team when you need them.

  • Dual pricing keeps the fee off your margin
Cash and card shown before they pay — Visa-compliant and automatic. A store running real card volume recovers most of its processing every month: margin back in your pocket.
  • Built in, not bolted on
The register sends the exact amount to the pad — key $10 instead of $100 on a standalone terminal and the money's gone. Integrated, there's nothing to mistype and nothing to skim.
  • Your card sales reconcile to the bank
A Credit Card Day lines your report up with how the processor settles — so your daily card total matches the deposit the bank actually made. The hardest number in retail to tie out.
For stores that sell tobacco

We run your scan data.
You collect the rebates.

Sell tobacco and Altria pays you for your scan data — but only if it's submitted right, every week. Most systems hand you a tablet, a login, and the maddening Altria website, then wish you luck. We provide the service: your data flows from the register through our scan-data team to IRI and MSA — watched and checked so every rebate you're owed actually shows up. You don't touch it. We make sure it's done right.

  • Altria Tier 2 today · Tier 4 rolling out nowTier 4 is the highest certification available — includes Loyalty Personalization+, Altria's customer retention program that drives repeat tobacco purchases.
  • We do it — not youSubmission runs from your register through our scan-data team to IRI and MSA, every week. We handle it and we watch it. You never touch the process — and a rebate doesn't slip because something was filed wrong.
  • Philip Morris, ITG, RJ Reynolds, US SmokelessAll four major tobacco manufacturers covered. One program, complete coverage.
  • By us — not a third partyMost POS systems farm scan data out to a third-party aggregator — another vendor in the middle, another company handling your numbers. We built the service ourselves and run it in-house. One company, one call, and your data never passes through a broker.
  • Certification you can't fakeAltria scan-data certification takes years of deep technical integration to earn. It's not a feature a newer POS can ship in a sprint — it's a credential built over a decade.
Altria scan-data relationship
10+ yrs
A decade of certified scan-data integration with Altria — the foundation Tier 4 and Loyalty Personalization+ build on
Certification takes years and deep technical integration. Operators submit transaction-level data weekly; manufacturers pay rebates monthly. The question isn't whether to run scan data — it's whether your POS can.
Pricer

The month's Altria promotions,
set in one screen.

InsightRS developed Pricer using Altria's price and promotion API as an early-access partner — the only integration of its kind. Every monthly promotion pulls straight into your back office: buydowns, multipacks, loyalty allowances, and the exact items each one applies to. You set all the prices at once — and Pricer flags any you've set wrong before they cost you a rebate.

Pricer — Altria price and promotion data in the Insight back office
  • The cycle's promotions, pulled automatically
Buydown, multi-pack, and loyalty allowances for the reporting period — straight from Altria's API, not copied off Altria's notoriously difficult website.
  • Set every price at once
One screen lists every item in the product family. Apply the whole cycle's pricing in a single step instead of keying items one at a time.
  • It catches the prices you set wrong
Drop below the non-promoted eligible price and Pricer flags it on the spot — so you stay compliant and never forfeit the allowance.
Audit your rebate check

Every discount you gave —
so you can audit the check.

Your scan data goes to Altria; the rebate comes back. This report is how you audit it — it lays out every manufacturer discount you rang, by promotion, by reward, in units and dollars, so the rebate you're owed is a number you can verify, not one you take on faith. Your own store promotions tally right beside it.

Liquor store POS — common questions

Questions liquor owners ask.

What's the best POS system for a liquor store?
Insight POS is built specifically for liquor, beer, and wine retail — case-break and sized-item inventory (one barcode sells as a single, six-pack, or case), built-in age verification and loyalty, distributor EDI invoice import, and margin analytics by category and region. It has been built for independent liquor stores since 1992, and you buy it direct with public pricing — no demo required.
Does it handle case breaks — selling by the case, six-pack, or single?
Yes. One product rings as a single, a six-pack, or a case off one barcode, and the parent case count reduces automatically as singles sell, so your on-hand stays exact. It is true case-break inventory, not a workaround.
Can it scan IDs for age verification?
Yes — the POS scans a driver's license to verify age in seconds at the lane, keeping you compliant without slowing the line.
Does Insight POS import distributor invoices?
Yes. Distributor invoices import by EDI, with cost changes flagged automatically so you catch a price increase before it eats your margin. AI invoice reading lands Q3 2026.
Can I see my margins and what is actually selling?
Yes. The cloud back office reports movement and margin by brand, size, region, and category — so you stock the movers, clear the dead stock, and buy on data instead of vibes.
Does it include customer loyalty?
Loyalty is built into the register — points and rewards you control, with the customer already known at the counter. Altria Personalization+ funded offers are rolling out now.
